Art Deco Emerald Diamond Brooch, Carrington & Co. Fitted Case 1925-1935
A refined Art Deco emerald and diamond brooch, circa 1925–1935, designed as an elongated geometric plaque in platinum and 18 karat gold.
The centre is set with a rectangular step-cut natural emerald weighing approximately 1.04 carats, displaying a rich, slightly bluish green colour. The emerald is flanked by two old-cut diamonds, with further diamonds pavé-set into sharply angled terminals, creating the strong architectural symmetry characteristic of the Art Deco period.
The openwork construction gives the brooch an elegant lightness while retaining considerable presence despite its compact 4 cm length. Fine linear borders and arrow-shaped ends frame the central emerald particularly well.
The brooch is accompanied by a period fitted Carrington & Co. Ltd. case, bearing the Royal Warrant inscription:
“By Appointment to the Late King George V, Carrington & Co. Ltd., 130 Regent St., W.1.”
The brooch sits precisely within the shaped recess of the case, both in length and outline, strongly suggesting that the case is original to the jewel. Carrington & Co. was one of London’s important historic jewellers and royal warrant holders, making the surviving fitted case an attractive additional element of provenance.
The piece has been carefully cleaned and inspected. It presents in exceptionally clean condition, with the emerald showing no obvious surface abrasion or scratches, the diamonds bright and well matched, and the brooch mechanism functioning correctly.
